Birmingham Law School is seeking to appoint an Assistant Professor (Education) to contribute to the delivery of teaching, management and administration in the School. This post is based in Dubai and will contribute to teaching on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including on our flagship Bachelor of Commercial Law programme.
We are interested in applications from those who can contribute to teaching and leadership in areas of law, including Civil and Islamic Law, Commercial Law, and Property Law. Candidates should also have experience of teaching English law.
This post is open to candidates currently based in the UAE, or able to relocate to the UAE by August 2026.
The post holder will lead and deliver teaching, and hold organisation and management responsibilities. The post holder will be expected to contribute to academic citizenship through engagement with a range of activities which support the growth of Law programmes at the Dubai campus. Although the post holder will be based in Dubai, they will be a valued colleague within Birmingham Law School and part of a wider academic community spanning Dubai and Birmingham. Strong and supportive links between the two campuses exist, and the post holder will develop generous, mutually respectful and supportive working relationships with all University staff and students.
Teaching will include a substantial contribution to: (a) the management, development and delivery of teaching and assessment; and (b) enhancement of the student experience and employability. The role will typically also involve supporting colleagues and students, including: (a) providing expert advice to staff and students; and (b) advising others on learning and teaching tasks and methods.
You will be expected to advance teaching and learning practice and take a role in leading curriculum development, and play an important role in student academic and pastoral support. You will deliver excellent teaching that inspires students, and is informed by discipline-based research.
All Assistant Professors are expected to complete the 5-year development programme at the end of which they are expected to be promoted to Associate Professor. The programme consists of a variety of development opportunities and the time to reflect and develop.
The closing date for applications is midnight BST on 30 May 2026.
Shortlisted candidates can expect to be interviewed in June.
Informal enquiries can be made to Dr Daley Birkett, Head of Law (Dubai), at d.birkett@bham.ac.uk.
