About us
The Department of Neuromuscular Diseases is a centre of clinical and research excellence specialising in spinal cord and neuromuscular diseases. Its world-leading researchers focus on understanding disease mechanisms and developing innovative therapies for conditions including motor neurone disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and other neuromuscular disorders.
The Department is also home to the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases (CNMD), which combines translational research with comprehensive NHS and nationally commissioned clinical services for a wide range of neuromuscular conditions.
About the role
We are recruiting a Clinical Research Fellow to join the Reilly Research Group within the Centre for Neuromuscular Diseases (CNMD). The team has developed an advanced MRI outcome measure for Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease and is now using AI-driven technology to further improve its accuracy, sensitivity, and efficiency.
The role will support a national study aimed at optimising MRI analysis, establishing six additional UK CMT trial-ready centres, and investigating the UK CMT landscape. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team and receive training in neuropathies, clinical assessment, MRI fat-fraction analysis, and genetics.
The post is ideal for a trainee wishing to develop expertise in inherited neuropathies, with potential opportunities to pursue a PhD linked to the study.
An Honorary Clinical contract will be sought from UCLH NHS Trust, for which a DBS check will be required.
The post is available from 01 August 2026 (this start date is flexible) and is funded by Muscular Dystrophy UK for three years in the first instance, although we would also be happy to consider trainees looking for a one- or two-year clinical research fellowship in neuropathy.
To apply, please upload a current CV, complete the online application form, and use the supporting statement section or upload a cover letter to outline how you meet the essential and desirable criteria for the role. Please do not upload any additional attachments as these will not be considered by the selection panel.
We expect to hold interviews on the afternoon of 19 June 2026.
About you
At the time this post commences, you must be a registered Medical Practitioner licenced to practise in the UK with good knowledge of confidentiality/GDPR, Good Clinical Practice, the NHS clinical governance framework, and clinical audit experience. You’ll have the ability to provide clinical supervision, communicate effectively and compassionately with patients from a diverse range of backgrounds and with diverse clinical and social needs, and demonstrate enthusiasm and ability to “go the extra mile” for patients and clinical care.
Experience of having worked in the NHS and in clinical neurology, completion of CMT/IMT training and MRCP, and excellent presentation skills are desirable.
What we offer
The role is offered with salary in the range of £51,140 - £78,670 per annum including London Allowance, on the CL, RDPS, or StR scale, dependent on NHS contract and/or stage of clinical training.
