About the role:
Imperial is a world leading university, ranked 2nd in the world and 1st in the UK and Europe. Life Sciences is a fast-paced multi-disciplinary department at the forefront of its field, with laboratories in South Kensington and Silwood campuses.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and motivated individual to join the teaching technical team in the Department of Life Sciences, Imperial College London, at the South Kensington campus. You will be supporting the day-to-day operations of the teaching laboratory facilities, developing and delivering practical classes and project-based laboratory sessions across undergraduate courses in Life Sciences.
What you would be doing:
You will provide technical support to laboratory practical classes, helping to ensure the smooth day-to-day running of teaching laboratory facilities. Key duties will include support for students and academics during practical classes and team-based project activities, preparing materials, samples and chemical solutions, and assisting with experimental set-up as directed by senior staff. The role also includes assisting with the operation, routine maintenance, and cleaning of laboratory equipment.
You will contribute to health and safety compliance, including supporting risk assessments, maintaining records, and assisting with laboratory waste management and general housekeeping. All activities will be carried out in accordance with established procedures, good laboratory practice, and departmental guidance.
You will need to have practical laboratory experience, strong communication and organisational skills, and be confident in delivering technical instructions to students. You should have good knowledge of Health & Safety and the technical knowledge for practical set up, testing and troubleshooting of equipment. You will be working alongside other technical and teaching staff to support the successful delivery of laboratory practical sessions.
