The celebrated wartime codebreaker Alan Turing worked on this computer during his time at Manchester.

School of Medical Sciences Teaching, Learning & Student Experience team

The School of Medical Sciences is home to a 5-year Undergraduate Medical Programme (MBChB), 2 Undergraduate Dentistry Programmes, a Physicians Associates Programme, a portfolio of around 27 PGT programmes, and international activity across many of these programmes.

In the Teaching, Learning & Student Experience team, we play a central role in supporting the delivery of high quality education across a wide variety of taught programmes. We work collaboratively with academic colleagues, NHS partners and other, central Professional Services teams to lead and support a wide range of teaching and learning activities, including curriculum delivery, assessment, placement management and student support, underpinned by complex digital systems and data driven approaches.

This role

In this senior role, you will lead high impact digital and service improvement initiatives for two key programmes of study within the School, providing strategic direction, robust governance and constructive challenge. You will work closely with academic colleagues, NHS partners, Professional Services teams and IT Services, influencing decision making and ensuring that our digital services are reliable, compliant and future focused.

Alongside this strategic leadership, you will provide oversight of the day to day delivery of the current 1Med applications. You will guide a small team of technical and administrative colleagues to ensure BAU services run smoothly, ongoing enhancements are delivered effectively, and risks, issues and dependencies are well managed.

This is a unique and varied position where no two days are the same — balancing strategic digital transformation with operational oversight of critical Teaching & Learning systems.

Essential skills:

You will:

  • Have a proven track record of delivering complex digital or IT enabled projects in a large organisation, ideally in Higher Education
  • Be highly skilled at building relationships, influencing senior decision makers and navigating complex governance structures
  • Bring strong experience in user centred design, requirements gathering and cross functional service improvement
  • Translate confidently between technical specialists and non technical stakeholders
  • Have excellent problem solving, analytical and communication skills
  • Enjoy leading, motivating and supporting teams through periods of change
  • Be comfortable working independently, managing ambiguity and prioritising effectively
  • When completing the additional information section of your application, please ensure you make reference to the job description and person specification in the further particulars as this will form an integral part of the shortlisting process.
