Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in Genetics and Biomedical Science at the University of Galway.

The School of Biological and Chemical Sciences in the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway invites applications for the position of Lecturer in Genetics and Biomedical Science, which are key subject areas within the School. The school has a strong international reputation for excellence in both teaching and research, with a particular emphasis on innovation in research-led teaching.

Major research themes within the school include cancer biology, chromosome biology, and genetics and genomics of disease. Candidates working in these and other areas of biochemistry, biomedical science, and molecular or cell biology are encouraged to apply.

The successful candidate will be based in the School of Biological and Chemical Sciences, which hosts a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, including Biochemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology and Genetics and Genomics. The appointee will be expected to contribute to teaching across these programmes and to participate in undergraduate project supervision.

The successful candidate will also be expected to undertake independent research capable of attracting national and international funding. Candidates whose research complements existing strengths within the School will be particularly welcome. The School maintains strong research links with the Institute for Health Discovery and Innovation and the Ryan Institute at the University of Galway.

Salary: €64,903 to €103,538.p.a (applicable to new entrants effective from January, 2011)

This appointment will be made on the Lecturer scale in line with current Government pay policy and in accordance with the terms and conditions of the University’s Remuneration policy. QA321-Updated-PP-Remuneration.pdf.
