About the role:
The Department of Surgery and Cancer (S&C) is looking for a Laboratory Manager who will play a vital role in the administration and management of the S&C research laboratories predominantly at Hammersmith Hospital and White City Campuses.
You will also support the Head of Division, Heads of Section and PIs in the management of their Health and Safety (H&S) responsibilities. The post holder will be a member of the S&C H&S Compliance team, carrying out inspections of laboratories across the S&C sites.
What you would be doing:
The role is responsible for the overall management and smooth operation of laboratory facilities, including health and safety compliance, equipment maintenance, procurement, stock control and general day‑to‑day operational support across laboratories and offices. It involves maintaining equipment and infrastructure, coordinating refurbishments and relocations, and working with central departments (Estates, ICT, Finance and Safety) as required.
The post holder will lead on teaching, and training staff and students, ensuring safe and efficient laboratory practices. This includes delivering inductions, maintaining compliance, providing first-line advice, resolving operational issues and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders, including researchers, service providers and external contractors.
