About the Role

The Department of Education is seeking to appoint a Departmental Lecturer in Mathematics Education. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching and supervision of students on the Mathematics PGCE and the MSc Learning and Teaching programme.

This is a fixed-term post until 30 July 2030, on a part time basis (15 hours/40% FTE), covering the duties of a permanent staff member while they undertake another role.

The Mathematics PGCE recruits approximately 30 students each year and is one of seven subjects offered within the wider secondary PGCE. The PGCE, commonly known as the Oxford Internship Scheme, has an international reputation for the quality of its programme and for the innovative thinking that has shaped it since its inception 35 years ago. The MSc Learning and Teaching is a two-year, part-time Master’s programme which, like the PGCE, places particular emphasis on the development of research-informed pedagogy, both at general and subject-specific levels.

For a suitably qualified candidate, there may also be opportunities to undertake additional teaching and supervision on other programmes offered by the Department.

Candidates should have:

  • A relevant Master’s-level degree, or higher
  • A degree in the curriculum subject, or equivalent, and UK Qualified Teacher Status
  • Evidence of familiarity with the existing literature and research in the field
  • An aptitude for teaching and awareness of pedagogic methods

If you would like to discuss the post and find out more about joining the academic community at Oxford, please contact Dr Velda Elliott at velda.elliott@education.ox.ac.uk. All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection decision.

Only applications received by 12 noon on Monday 15 June 2026 will be accepted.

Please include a CV and a supporting statement outlining how you meet the selection criteria.
