We are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, creating a community where colleagues feel respected and valued. We aim to reflect the diversity of our students and communities, and to strengthen our university through collaboration and diverse perspectives, across all roles at the University.

We are looking to recruit an Alumni Engagement Assistant to support a busy programme of events, communications and volunteering, and to be the first point of contact for alumni (those who once studied at the University of Hull) and the Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement team.

Background

Founded in 1927, the University of Hull has a long and proud history. Through our teaching, research and civic engagement, we are helping to shape and deliver the future prosperity of our region and far beyond.

Our global alumni community, now numbering more than 190,000, is an integral part of our community. The Philanthropy and Alumni Engagement team is the link between the University and our alumni and supporters, providing bespoke engagement opportunities that build connections and raise philanthropic funding.

The job in brief

Do you want to work in a role that takes in events, communications, and stakeholder engagement? We’re excited to offer an opportunity to join our team as an Alumni Engagement Assistant. This is a perfect role for someone eager to gain hands-on experience across a wide range of activities.

In this varied and rewarding role, you’ll be at the heart of our alumni community—supporting events, communications, and volunteering initiatives that connect graduates with the University.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Responding to enquiries from alumni, donors, volunteers and the wider university community in a friendly and professional manner using our CRM system (training provided)
  • Supporting the delivery of events in Hull, across the UK, and internationally—including liaising with venues, suppliers, and attendees
  • Managing event registrations and assisting with pre- and post-event communications
  • Working with our Alumni Volunteer Officer to grow our successful volunteering programme, including logging activity and recognising volunteer contributions
  • Assisting with alumni communications, including email campaigns and social media content
  • General finance administration

What we're looking for:

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • A proactive and positive approach
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines

What you'll gain:

  • Experience across events, communications, and stakeholder engagement
  • Training in industry-standard systems such as Salesforce
  • The chance to develop a broad and transferable skill set
  • A supportive team environment with opportunities to learn and grow

The full job description for this role can be found here.

This is an exciting opportunity to build your experience and make a real impact within a vibrant alumni community.

Working arrangements

This post will be hybrid. Most weeks you will be working from home for 3 days and working from the office on 2 days. Flexibility will be needed, though, with some evening and some weekend working required to support events and other activities. In return, we offer flexible and hybrid working options for the right candidate and welcome applications from a diverse range of individuals as part of our commitment to an inclusive workplace.

To apply

Application is by CV and covering letter. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to interview, which will include a short test.

Interviews will take place in August 2026.
