The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Photography Programme within the Media School at London College of Communication, working on our new BA Photography and Creative Industries course.
Drawing on your knowledge, skills and experience of the contemporary photography and creative industries you will be part of a team developing and delivering this innovative course. You will be responsible for teaching students how to use studio and location lighting, analogue and digital cameras, and develop contemporary postproduction skills.
You will also be responsible for developing students’ creative, technical, professional and entrepreneurial skills. A key part of your role will be helping students define their creative voice, build relationships with brands and industry partners as well as understand how their image-making can be developed towards building a career in the creative sector. You will help them develop their creative vision, portfolios and brand, as they produce works across editorials, spec ads, campaigns, branded content and personal work.
About you
You will have extensive professional experience within contemporary photography, image-making, or the creative industries. This may include work as a photographer, filmmaker, creative director, graphic designer or in a related role. A strong portfolio demonstrating an understanding of the relationship between photography, moving image, creative direction, advertising and curation is essential. Please submit a PDF portfolio deck or link to an online portfolio (for interactive media) that illustrates work from your visual practice.
This role also requires advanced knowledge of studio and location lighting, analogue and digital photography, and current post-production practices. Previous experience of working on branded projects and creative collaborations is essential, along with a clear understanding of the full production process from concept development and creative strategy through pitching, budgeting, pre-production, production, post-production, and image licensing. You will also be able to demonstrate experience of mentoring emerging creatives and supporting career development, including guidance on building an online presence and marketing work.
You will be an innovative educator with a commitment to the ongoing development of pedagogy as a creative practice, and to promoting diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of your teaching and assessment. Previous experience of Higher Education teaching is essential, along with excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
