The Opportunity

This role carries significant responsibility for ensuring the effective governance and administration of the School of Biological Sciences and the and day-to-day operation of the School Office. Acting as a central point of coordination, the postholder provides high-level administrative and organisational support to key committees and institutional processes, including the School Council, Research Ethics Committees, and Academic Career Pathways schemes. The role is critical in maintaining compliance with University policies and regulatory requirements, enabling smooth delivery of HR processes, and supporting strategic decision-making through accurate record-keeping, reporting, and communication. The role is a vital support for effective running of the School Office through development and implementation of robust administrative systems and processes.

About You

You will be a self-starter who enjoys working independently within a busy and well-connected team. You will have excellent organisational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complex processes simultaneously. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with academic staff, senior leaders, committees, and central services. You will be a collaborative team player, able to provide clear guidance and support to others, with an interest in contributing proactively to continuous improvement of administrative systems, processes, and practices. You will also have a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to interpret and apply policies and procedures.

Experience in servicing formal committees, HR administration, and process improvement will be highly advantageous. You will be a confident and experienced user of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Teams, and SharePoint, with the ability to utilise digital tools to enhance efficiency.
