The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity to join the Photography Programme within the Media School at London College of Communication, working on our new BA Photography and Creative Industries course.
With knowledge, skills and experience of the contemporary photography and creative industries, you will be part of a team developing and delivering this innovative course.
You will be responsible for teaching students to develop new approaches to written and verbal communication in the areas of social impact, creative strategy and curation in contemporary photographic practice.
You will also be responsible for developing students’ creative, technical, professional and entrepreneurial skills. A key part of your role will be helping students to define their creative voice, build relationships with brands and industry partners as well as understand how their image-making can be developed towards building a career in the creative sector. You will help them develop their creative vision, portfolios and brand, as they produce works across editorials, spec ads, campaigns, branded content and personal work.
About you
You will have extensive experience of working within contemporary areas of photography, image-making or the creative industries. This could be as a photographer, filmmaker, creative director, graphic designer, or a related role, with a portfolio that shows a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of how Photography and Moving Image can intersect with curation, advertising, or creative direction. You will have experience of developing new approaches to written and verbal communication, in the areas of social impact, creative strategy and curation in contemporary photographic practice.
You will have contemporary and well documented experiences of working on branded projects and will be able to show your contributions to creative collaborations: from ideation, creative strategy, pitching, budgeting, pre-production, production, postproduction and image licensing.
You will have experience of working with mentees, students, learners, graduates and/or photographers on career development and an understanding of how to build creative teams, negotiate professional fee structures, build an online presence and market your work.
You will have a wide ranging and relevant cultural and contextual knowledge and be able to apply this to contemporary commercial and creative practices within your teaching.
You will be an innovative educator with a commitment to the ongoing development of pedagogy as a creative practice, and to promoting diversity and inclusivity in all aspects of your teaching and assessment. You will combine previous experience of Higher Education teaching with highly effective interpersonal, communication and organisational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues.
