Responsibilities and qualifications

The position will cover both experimental work in the laboratory and modelling work, with the emphasis on linking damage models to experimental findings. The topic of the position is fracture mechanics testing of composite materials and structures and will focus on mechanical testing, damage analysis/characterization and modelling crack growth in composites. Further, the position will also focus on development of new element specimens and element testing methods with the aim of understanding various damages in wind turbine rotor blades.

You are expected to work on the following topics:

  • Analysis of crack growth in composite structures
  • Fracture mechanics testing and damage characterization in composite materials
  • Multiscale testing, from microscale, via coupons to elements
  • Modelling of cracks in composites e.g. by the finite element method
  • Microscale investigation of damage using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray tomography
  • Development of research projects, writing project applications
  • Project management
  • Teach and supervise BSc and MSc student projects
  • Co-supervision of PhD-students
  • Innovation (collaboration with industry and other research groups)

You must contribute to the teaching of courses. DTU employs two working languages: Danish and English. You are expected to be fluent in at least one of these languages, and in time are expected to master both.

Preference will be given to applicants that can document:

  • Publications in the field of fracture mechanics testing & modelling of composites
  • Experience in mechanical testing of coupons, elements - static and cyclic loading
  • Experience in damage modelling – analytical and finite element modelling
  • Experience in X-ray tomography
  • Experience in leading research activities & supervision of master students
  • Experience in working with other researchers and industry partners
  • Fluency in communicating, reading and writing in English[AG3]

You will be assessed against the responsibilities and qualifications stated above and the following general criteria:
