University of Cambridge - C.I.M.R. Clinical Biochemistry

Location: Cambridge
Salary: £37,694 to £46,049
Hours: Full Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 10th June 2026
Closes: 7th July 2026
Job Ref: SG49944

Applications are invited for an enthusiastic and motivated Research Associate to join the Laboratory of David Owen and Bernard Kelly at the Cambridge Institute for Medical Research. Our work combines cell biology, structural biology and biochemistry/biophysics to build a deep, integrated understanding of intracellular trafficking mechanisms, with a particular emphasis on cargo sorting in the endocytic system. The successful candidate will study the cell biology of receptor trafficking between the plasma membrane and endosomes.

All applicants must hold at minimum a PhD in cell biology/biochemistry and have prior extensive experience with (a) confocal, epifluorescence and live-cell microscopy to study transmembrane protein trafficking in cultured cells (with associated use of statistical analysis), (b) cell line engineering (creating stable cell lines by viral transduction) and carrying out RNA depletion (siRNA/shRNA) and (c) immunoprecipitation, western blotting, FACS, and protein biochemistry techniques. In-depth knowledge of endosomal function and morphology and/or experience with cellular immunoelectron microscopy and/or super-resolution microscopy would be greatly advantageous.

The Cambridge Institute for Medical Research (CIMR) is located on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus and it is a collaborative institute at the interface between fundamental research and the clinic, with a mission to determine the molecular mechanisms of disease in order to advance human health.
