Leeds Arts University is the only specialist arts university in the North of England. We have contributed significantly to the development of arts education for over 180 years and have developed a national and international reputation based on the achievements of our students and staff.
The BA (Hons) Games Art course provides an innovative, lively, and critically rich programme of study on which students explore both the creative and technical dimensions of designing and developing art for immersive game experiences. It places emphasis on exploring the role art plays in the process of game development, while gaining essential skills in creating concept art, 2D and 3D games assets. The course offers access to state-of-the-art software, advanced hardware, and dedicated studio spaces equipped with industry-standard equipment; all set within a specialist arts culture that affords opportunities for exciting collaborations and innovative projects.
This is an exciting time to join the course team, as you will have the opportunity to make a distinct contribution to its ambitious ethos. As a Senior Lecturer in Games Art, you will help plan, design, deliver and organise the course. You will contribute to the academic management supporting the Course Leader and take oversight of one of the year groups. You will be teaching and leading on games art modules across all levels, whilst contributing broadly to other elements within the course to build links with external employers, events, and opportunities for exhibiting student work. Working individually and as a member of a team you will be expected to deliver teaching within a variety of settings including lectures, seminars, studio and workshops, peer reviews and individual tutorials.
You will have extensive knowledge and applied expertise in full 3D asset creation pipeline and optimisation for games, theory and concepts including composition, rendering, asset testing, and using Autodesk Maya, Substance Painter and Designer, ZBrush, Photoshop, Unreal Engine, and Marvelous Designer. Experience with Blender is welcomed.
The successful candidate will have a Master’s degree in a relevant subject or willingness to obtain one within 2 years and a post-graduate teaching qualification or the willingness to attain one in 3 years. You will have extensive knowledge and expertise appropriate to Games Art as a discipline including emergent innovations, and contemporary contexts.
