The University of Glasgow, Small Animal Hospital is seeking to recruit a part-time Veterinary Clinician to join our Out of Hours Emergency Service.  Our team provides emergency cover for a large number of local practices, offering an excellent opportunity to develop skills across a broad range of medical, surgical, emergency and critical care cases. We also benefit from close collaboration with the hospital’s specialist referral services and newly launched Primary Care Practice

This post offers the opportunity to investigate and treat cases to a high standard, while also contributing to the clinical training of undergraduate students and interns within a supportive academic environment.

This is a 0.2 FTE post based on a full-time 35-hour week, with a generous holiday allowance. The role typically involves either one shift every two weeks, or one two-day weekend every four weeks.

Possible shifts include:

Night shifts: 7pm–8am

Weekend/Public Holiday Day shifts: 7:30am–8:30pm

Backshifts: 11am–11pm or 12pm–12am

Shift times are fixed, but working days can be arranged flexibly to suit the successful candidate. A weekend-only working pattern without night shifts can be accommodated if preferred. Backshifts are particularly suitable for less experienced clinicians, as they do not involve sole charge.

The successful candidate will hold a veterinary degree registrable with the RCVS and have post-graduate clinical experience as a veterinary surgeon. Previous emergency experience is desirable, although applicants with relevant general practice experience are also encouraged to apply.

The School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine has an excellent international reputation in teaching, clinical services and research and is accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS), the European Association of Establishments of Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). Our purpose-built hospital is one of the most sophisticated in Europe, allowing companion animals to benefit from the most advanced care available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week throughout the year from some of the best specialist vets in the world.
