Aston University is seeking a highly motivated Research Assistant to support two interconnected research projects focused on inclusive mobility and innovative. The projects investigate how digital twins, augmented reality (AR), and AI-enabled systems can improve accessibility and navigation for wheelchair users and people with limited mobility.
The successful candidate will work with academic researchers, wheelchair users, students, transport providers and disability organisations to co-develop user-centred solutions for more inclusive transport systems.
The role contributes to two projects: Scaling Inclusive Mobility from Campus to City and Beyond (funded by the EPSRC Impact Acceleration Account, Aston University) and Development of a Digital Twin and AI-Enabled Walkway Monitoring System (funded by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups, South Korea).
Responsibilities include supporting interviews, surveys, focus groups, user trials and public engagement activities; assisting in the development and testing of AR navigation and digital twin technologies; analysing qualitative and quantitative data; and contributing to reports, publications, presentations, and dissemination activities.
This role offers valuable experience in inclusive design, emerging technologies and international collaboration with LBSTech and KAIST.
The role is offered on a fixed-term basis for 18 months, with the option to work part-time until July 2028.
