We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Primary Education to join our Department of Initial Teacher Education in the School of Business, Education, and Law.

The Department of Initial Teacher Education is a vibrant community, supporting trainee teachers across all phases; early years, primary, secondary and further education, in close partnership with our extensive network of partner schools. Our mission is to develop professional educators who transform the learning and life opportunities of the children, young people and adults they work with. Through inclusive practice, reflective enquiry and a commitment to continuous professional development, we empower our trainees to become autonomous practitioners who enable all learners to realise their potential.

This post is open to educators who are interested in developing the future workforce. You will work with experienced academic and professional services colleagues to develop and facilitate learners’ knowledge, skills and professional attributes on a course that is contemporary, future-looking and enables graduates to meet the challenges of pupils, schools, and communities. Commitment to research and an innovative student-centred learning experience is essential.

You will hold a teaching qualification with QTS and a master's degree (or equivalent) in primary education or a related subject, with a requirement to register for a doctorate within 12 months of appointment if you don't already hold one. You will bring substantial experience teaching in the primary phase, excellent knowledge of the primary curriculum to teach confidently across undergraduate and postgraduate modules, and a sound understanding of Ofsted inspection criteria. You will show genuine engagement with educational research or scholarship, with the potential to build a sustained research profile, alongside strong communication skills, digital literacy, and the administrative capability to manage courses and modules effectively, underpinned by a commitment to collaborative working and to equality, diversity and inclusion.

This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. Regular status checks may also be required, depending on your role.

The University is deeply committed to equality and diversity for all its students and staff. We seek to be diverse and inclusive, supporting individuals and groups to fulfil their potential and nurture a sense of belonging. We strive to be an accessible, inclusive employer, removing barriers for all. Find out more about our approach to Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, including our commitments and accreditations as a Disability Confident Leader, Top 100 Employer, Athena Swan Silver Award holder and Race Equality Charter Bronze Award holder.
