The University of Buckingham is seeking to recruit a flexible, adaptable and approachable individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills for the position of Solicitor within the University's Legal Service at our Buckingham campus.
Reporting to the Secretary to Council, the Solicitor will provide efficient, timely and pragmatic legal advice to faculties and administrative departments across the University. The role will manage day-to-day legal matters, contract review, data protection, legal research, dispute resolution, compliance, governance, intellectual property, property matters and data protection-related legal work. The Solicitor will have line management responsibility for two further members of the Legal Services team – a Data Protection Officer and a Paralegal.
The role would suit a qualified solicitor or barrister with a commercial and contractual background or previous in-house experience, ideally in Higher Education, who is comfortable engaging with a broad range of legal work. This will include estates, employment law, intellectual property, data protection, governance, regulatory and compliance, company law, charity law, disputes and litigation.
The role will provide legal advice and input within the applicable areas of expertise to faculties and administrative departments, whilst also coordinating the provision of external legal advice in relation to the full range of work at the University. The candidate will ideally have at least 3 years PQE.
The Solicitor will also help ensure that legal records are properly maintained that matters are tracked through relevant case management system, and that external solicitors are instructed only where necessary.
