The opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Lecturer in Illustration to join the ambitious and dynamic Illustration Programme at Camberwell College of Arts, where you will inspire and challenge the next generation of illustrators.
Based within the Design School at CCW, you will contribute to teaching, leadership and the ongoing development of the MA Illustration course. This broad, inclusive, and experimental course supports individual practitioners in developing sustainable creative models that engage with and contribute to the expanding field of contemporary illustration.
Drawing on your knowledge of transdisciplinary methodology, storytelling and contemporary visual culture, you will help students enrich their practice through the development of methods, concepts, theories and professional experiences, encouraging approaches to illustration that transcend traditional notions of how and where illustration operates in the world.
You will lead the organisation and delivery of Units and assessment, ensuring they are rigorous, transparent, fair and fully aligned with University and College policies. Working collaboratively within the course team, you will contribute specialist expertise to the ongoing development of pedagogy and the curriculum, helping to shape innovative and critically engaged learning experiences that challenge established narratives within illustration and promote diversity and inclusion.
The role also includes providing academic and pastoral support to a group of postgraduate students, monitoring their progress and attendance, maintaining accurate records and liaising with colleagues as required.
About you
We are looking for a skilled academic practitioner with an undergraduate degree in a relevant subject area. A higher degree, teaching qualification, or Fellowship of Advance HE would be advantageous but is not essential. You will have experience of teaching and assessment within Higher Education or a comparable context, together with the ability to motivate and lead others, set clear objectives and manage performance.
Strong communication, organisational, and teamwork skills are essential, as well as the ability to apply creative and inclusive approaches to teaching, learning, and professional practice.
