Introduction to YSJ University

York St John University is a dynamic and ambitious institution at the heart of historic York, known for its commitment to widening participation, academic excellence, and community impact. We are one of the fastest-growing universities in the UK, with a strategy that places inspirational learning and applied research at the centre of everything we do. Our students benefit from a supportive, inclusive environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, professional development, and meaningful engagement with real-world challenges.

The School

Law is a vibrant and rapidly developing part of York Business School. Our Law provision includes a growing LLB programme, launched in 2018, alongside several postgraduate programmes which continue to expand our academic portfolio and research culture. Across all our provision, we emphasise personal and skills development, employability, and placing law in context to strengthen analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. We are committed to high-quality, research-informed teaching and to creating an inclusive and supportive learning environment where students are known as individuals and encouraged to achieve their full potential.

The Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and experienced candidate to join us as a Senior Lecturer in Law. You will contribute to delivering high-quality teaching across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, supporting students in both the academic and applied dimensions of legal study, and helping to enhance the overall student experience through engaging and inclusive teaching.

Required Skills and Experience

The successful candidate must be able to contribute to one or more of the core LLB modules and postgraduate provision and should have expertise in two or more of the following areas: mental health law, conveyancing, medical law, property law, or asylum and immigration. Candidates must demonstrate a proven ability to deliver engaging, inclusive, and research-informed teaching. Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (or equivalent) is required, along with a strong commitment to supporting student learning, employability, and professional development. Experience in curriculum development and mentoring colleagues is desirable. Experience of supervising students in practice-based environments, and an ability to contribute to clinical supervision and teaching, would be an advantage.

Candidates will ideally possess a doctoral-level qualification in a relevant field and have an established or developing research profile that contributes to Law’s growing research agenda.
