We are seeking a qualified legal professional with experience in contract law to join Bath Spa University’s in-house Legal team and provide high-impact and specialist legal support across the institution.

About the role
This senior, high-profile role leads the drafting, negotiation and delivery of complex, high-value contracts that support the University’s strategic goals. As the principal legal expert on contractual matters, it provides commercially focused advice to senior leadership, ensuring decisions are compliant and aligned with regulatory requirements.
The role also contributes to building a high-performing Legal Services function by developing colleagues, strengthening governance and improving contract processes. Acting as a key representative, it leads major negotiations, manages external legal relationships, and supports wider sector engagement, combining technical expertise with strategic leadership and collaboration.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking an experienced, qualified solicitor or barrister in England with a strong track record in drafting, advising on and negotiating complex, high-value contracts. You will bring significant post-qualification experience, including the ability to supervise others, alongside the leadership skills to support a high-performing legal function.
With a commercially focused approach, you will deliver clear, practical advice, manage competing priorities, and confidently influence senior stakeholders. Highly organised and adaptable, you will demonstrate sound judgement, attention to detail, and the ability to navigate complex legal and commercial challenges while quickly building expertise in new areas.
