About the role
This senior leadership role oversees the delivery of specialist regulatory legal advice across the University, ensuring compliance within a complex and evolving regulatory environment. Acting as a key legal authority, it supports areas including OfS requirements, data protection, consumer law and equality obligations, while advising senior leadership and governing bodies on legal risk and governance.
The position also drives the development of a proactive Legal Services function, strengthening policies, building team capability and embedding a culture of compliance. As a visible leader, it represents the University with regulators and stakeholders, manages complex disputes, and promotes institution-wide understanding of legal and regulatory responsibilities.
Who we are looking for
We are seeking a qualified solicitor or barrister in England with strong experience advising within regulated sectors, combining deep legal expertise with the ability to lead and operate at a senior level. A proven leader, you will supervise and develop others while contributing to a high-performing legal function. With excellent communication, judgement and organisational skills, you will translate complex legal matters into clear, practical advice, influence senior stakeholders, and work confidently in a fast-paced environment.
