Stipendiary Lecturer in Human Geography

University of Oxford - St Catherine’s College

Location: Oxford
Salary: £8,453 p.a.
Hours: Part Time
Contract Type: Fixed-Term/Contract
Placed On: 23rd June 2026
Closes: 6th July 2026

St Catherine’s College proposes to appoint a 3 weighted-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in Human Geography. The appointment is renewable subject to a 9-month probationary period.

The Lecturer will be part of a diverse and motivated team of Geography tutors and will be expected to teach three hours a week, averaged over the three terms (twenty-four weeks) of the academic teaching year. The College operates a weighting system whereby hours spent teaching groups larger than one person count for more than one hour. St Catherine’s typically takes 10 Geography students and teaching is expected to be organised in small groups of usually 2 or 3 students, and of a group of 10 for cohort classes.

As a member of the team of Geography tutors, the post-holder will be expected to play a full role in the running of Geography in the College, including arranging tuition in Geography, participating in the admissions process, setting and marking College examinations, and taking a role in the pastoral care of undergraduates. Informal enquiries about the tutorial teaching requirements may be made to Professor Fiona McConnell (email: fiona.mcconnell@ouce.ox.ac.uk).

The annual stipend for three terms is currently £8,453 and is pensionable. The Lecturer will be a member of the Senior Common Room and will be entitled, free of charge, to three meals per week (one of which may be lunch) during Term and the Admissions Period. Teaching/seminar rooms are available for booking within College.

Further particulars may be obtained from our web site or, in case of difficulty, from the Personnel Advisor, St Catherine’s College, Oxford, OX1 3UJ (Email: personnel@stcatz.ox.ac.uk).

Applications should be sent, in a single file, by email to the Personnel Advisor (Email: personnel@stcatz.ox.ac.uk) via the above 'Apply' button to arrive not later than noon on 6th July. Applications must include: a completed Application Cover Form (available to download as part of the further particulars); a letter of application including a statement of prior teaching experience; a full curriculum vitae; and the names of two academic referees. Please specify that you are applying for the Stipendiary Lectureship in Geography. Referees of shortlisted candidates should be prepared to be contacted ahead of the week of the interviews.

Interviews will likely be held in the week beginning 13th July.

The closing date for applications is noon on 6th July.
