Laboratory Technician

Location: Building for Molecular Physiology, Roosevelt Drive, Old Road Campus, Oxford, OX3 7BN

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Laboratory Technician to join the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS) Oxford Institute, a leading biomedical research institute within the Nuffield Department of Medicine at the University of Oxford. This role offers the opportunity to support world-class research by contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of laboratory operations and providing essential support to researchers across the Institute.

You will be responsible for a wide range of laboratory support activities, including managing stock levels, ordering consumables, maintaining laboratory equipment, preparing buffers and media, processing deliveries, and ensuring laboratory spaces are clean, organised, and compliant with health and safety requirements. You will also assist with sample processing and record keeping, contribute to sustainability initiatives such as recycling and upcycling programmes, and support researchers with the efficient operation of laboratory facilities. Following training, you will be expected to work independently, prioritise your workload effectively, and contribute to the Institute’s out-of-hours on-call rota.

It is essential that you have GCSEs (or equivalent) in English, Maths and Science, together with recent experience working in a life sciences laboratory environment. You will possess excellent organisational and communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a good understanding of laboratory practices, health and safety requirements, and scientific record keeping. The ability to work both independently and collaboratively is essential, along with confidence using Microsoft Office applications. Experience of laboratory stock management, buffer and media preparation, or working with hazardous chemicals would be advantageous.
