Open Rank Research Fellow in European and American Studies

The Institute of European and American Studies (IEAS) at Academia Sinica in aiwan is seeking applications for an open-rank faculty position (Assistant Research Fellow (tenure-track), Associate Research Fellow (with consideration for tenure), or Research Fellow (with tenure); which respectively correspond to Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, and Full Professor, but without teaching obligations). The Institute is recruiting in all areas of European and American Studies, with particularly favorable consideration in the fields of British/American/Anglophone Literature (including Cultural Studies); U.S.-Taiwan-China Relations (including U.S. foreign relations, security, and U.S. politics); Demography, Social Stratification; EU politics, preferably EU environmental politics/Degrowth, EU external relations, preferably EU-Russia relations, EU and Central/Eastern Europe, EU constitutionalism; and Philosophy (with priority given to areas related to IEAS’s thematic research project of “Language, Cognition, and Society”). 

Qualified candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in hand or expect to defend the dissertation prior to 31 July 2026. Interested applicants please submit the following documents:

1. CV (including a complete list of publications; clearly indicate SSCI-indexed journal publications, if applicable), specifying the position for which you wish to apply
2. Research plan in English (for the current and next 5 to 8 years, about 2,000 words)
3. Diploma (or proof) of doctoral degree
4. Transcripts of Master’s and doctoral degrees
5. Dissertation (at least first draft) and representative publications from the last 5 years (since 2021); subject matters must be related to European and American Studies (comparative studies acceptable, and the academic journal articles or book chapters must be peer-reviewed)
6. English abstract of dissertation if not written in Chinese or English
7. Basic information sheet (downloadable at the top of this webpage).
