Teaching Fellow in Islamic Arts

The Courtauld wishes to appoint a Teaching Fellow to a fixed-term position of 12 months to cover teaching normally filled by permanent faculty on BA History of Art modules as needed according to staff absence.

Role Details

• Contract type: Fixed-term (12-months)
• Contract dates: ASAP – 31 July 2027 (teaching begins on Monday 28 September)
• Hours: Part-time, (Up to 0.65FTE, dependent on modules)
• Salary: £31.651 (Grade 6, pro-rata dependent on modules)

Teaching Responsibilities

This role would include teaching on the following Postgraduate Taught modules:

Examining Exhibitions – MA History of Art Group Taught Module (Spring, Wednesdays, 10am - 1pm)

And on the following BA modules:

• BA1 Topic: ‘Craft and Material Culture in Medieval Islamic Art c. 650 – 1350’ (Spring, Tuesdays, 12.30pm - 2.30pm)
• BA2/BA3 Approaches (2 groups): ‘Approaches to Islamic Ornament c. 650 – 1350’ (Autumn, Fridays, 10am - 12noon and 1pm - 3pm)
• BA3 Special Option: 'Art and the Modern Nation: From Medieval Islam to Post-Modern Iran' (Autumn, Tuesday 10am - 12noon and Thursday 12noon - 2pm)

Plus supervising up to 6 BA3 dissertations.

We would be interested in hearing both from candidates able to teach this full range of modules and those who may be able to teach individual modules.

Workload and Support

• Teaching Fellow contracts include an allocation of time for preparation, teaching, tutorials, and marking in line with the weight of each module. In addition, the role includes:
  An administrative allowance of 1 hour for every 3 hours of teaching
• An allowance of time for scholarship at 1 hour for every 3 hours of teaching
• Additional preparation time for independently taught modules

Induction and Training

If you have not taught at The Courtauld before, you will be required to attend the Teacher Training Refresher on the morning of Wednesday 16 September at Vernon Square. If you have taught at The Courtauld previously, you may optionally attend this session.
