About the role

As a Lecturer in Structural Engineering, you will be involved in contributing to the Department’s work, with a particular focus on the Structures Section. The postholder will support teaching and learning, helping to educate undergraduate and postgraduate students, while also contributing to research activities in Structural Engineering.

Your main duties will be to:

  • Develop and maintain a rigorous, high-level research programme in Structural Engineering, on topics which could include novel interplays between lab experiments, advanced computational analysis and design, structural optimisation, and the use of novel and traditional materials and solutions to enhance resilience and sustainability.
  • Develop and maintain links with industry, government, funding agencies and other relevant organisations, to ensure the widest impact of research outcomes.
  • Represent Departmental interests at national and international research-driven events, including conferences, research council funding panels and teaching ratification committees, etc.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and delivery of internationally leading undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes in Structural Engineering and Structural Design.
  • Actively participate in departmental activities, meetings, and initiatives to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and contribute to team objectives

About you

Key requirements of the role are:

  • PhD and a significant track record in Structural Engineering that strengthens or complements departmental strengths
  • A comprehensive background in Structural Engineering, spanning experimental testing, numerical simulation, and analytical modelling
  • Demonstrated excellence in Structural Engineering, evidenced by high-quality refereed publications and participation in conferences
  • Experience in working with industry and/or with international organisations and institutions
  • Relevant teaching experience in higher education
