Reporting To: Accountable to Professor Albert Leung, Head of the School of Dentistry
Location: RCSI, Sandyford Dental Education Centre (DEC), other DECs as they are developed, RCSI St Stephen’s Green Campus and all other RCSI owned or commissioned teaching, research and clinical facilities.
Contract type/duration: Permanent, full time (1FTE): preferable.
RCSI may consider part time options of no less than 0.8 FTE, subject to the successful candidate and RCSI needs.
Objectives of the post:
RCSI is seeking an appropriately qualified, experienced and registered dentist, who has a demonstrated record in, and passion about teaching, clinical supervision and research, who would be an academic leader in a multicultural environment. You will ideally demonstrate energy, innovation, independent initiative, excellent organisation and communication skills, track record of teaching and clinical excellence, and research success. This is in respect of Dental Education, Primary Care Dentistry, and other related disciplines where applicable.
The ideal candidate:
- A PhD in an area relevant to dentistry or dental education or equivalent (for example, Level 10 Professional Doctorate)
- Completion of appropriate postgraduate training in the relevant discipline in clinical/general dentistry
- Possession of an MFDRCSI, and/or an MGDSRCSI, or an FFDRCSI, or an FGDSRCSI, or a Fellowship from a Royal College of Surgeons in the UK in the same discipline as above (Desirable)
- Full registration as a dentist with the Dental Council in Ireland or holds a qualification recognised by the Dental Council in Ireland for registration as a dentist in Ireland
- Experience of university teaching, particularly in clinical dentistry
- Strong educational interest, acumen and skill set, as evidenced by experience in undergraduate and/or postgraduate teaching and assessment in dentistry or relevant health science domains.
- An ability to engage undergraduate students through a range of teaching modes.
- An ability to continuously adapt and innovate teaching methods and in dental education
- Demonstrate an interest in seeking opportunities to support students’ whole development
- Strong commitment to own personal and professional development.
- Effective communication style appropriate to audience and situation.
- Able to build and maintain strong working relationships.
- Requires minimum direction to effectively deliver on assigned functions, and demonstrates a positive, student –centred and solution focused approach to addressing challenges and ambiguity.
- Has flexibility to work irregular hours on occasion, and for international travel on occasion if required.
