Maths Tutor

Contract type: Full Time, Fixed Term for 1 year

To teach a broad range of Mathematics modules at both International Foundation Year and Pre-masters level, across the three different programmes of study at the centre. (Business, Economics, Accounting and Finance, Humanities, Law and Social Sciences, and Science and Engineering).

ABOUT THE ROLE  

• Attending lectures given by Durham University to support student progression.
• Planning and preparing lessons in line with departmental expectations, using appropriate teaching methods and resources.
• Assisting in the development of modules from existing module specifications.
• Preparing module examinations and other forms of formative assessment, marking and providing feedback to students.
• To act as a module coordinator for a specific maths module.  
• Assisting with the development and maintenance of the virtual learning environment (VLE).
• Providing input for related modules to the annual review and reporting process.
• Reviewing your own professional development and identifying any training needs.
• Maintaining an accurate and up-to-date record of student attendance and performance.
• Providing, when/if required, academic learning support to a small number of students.
• Participating in regular meetings with both teaching and support staff.
• Supporting various student engagement activities around the ISC.

ABOUT YOU  

• A degree in a related subject area (essential but Master’s degree strongly preferred)
• Fluent spoken and written English (essential)
• A recognised teaching qualification (desirable)
• Teaching experience, delivering Mathematics programmes within a Further Education or Higher Education context (essential)
• Experience of working with international students online and face to face (highly desirable)
• Proven ability to support international students in academic transition (essential)
• Experience of preparing resources, assessments and examinations (essential)
• Competent IT skills (essential)
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines (essential)
• Confident and competent practitioner, online (e.g., use of Teams/Zoom) and face to face (desirable)
