Applications are invited for an appointment as Lecturer in BioInnovation, 1 FTE, Specific Purpose Contract type A at University of Galway.
Since 2011, BioInnovate Ireland has trained 170 Fellows through its MSc/PGDip and more than 300 industry and clinical trainees. The programme has led to the creation of 36 Irish startups that have raised over €560 million.
The BioInnovate programme attracts high calibre individuals that work together in inter-disciplinary teams over 10 months. The teams are taught and mentored on the use of Biodesign methodology, through clinical immersion and observation of market needs in their immersive environment. The teams are supported to identify unmet healthcare needs, generate new innovative solutions and IP, and prepare a business plan to commercialise the proposed solution. The programme also provides postgraduate research training at M.Sc. level.
The University’s new Ian Quinn Centre for Health Technology Innovation is expanding the University’s health technology innovation educational and research offerings to support industry, clinicians and the health tech community to come together and accelerate health technologies. Current training courses include:
10-day Intrapreneurship Training course for Industry Trainees
3-day Lead with the Need BioInnovate 101 course for Industry or Clinical Professionals
3-day Strategic Innovation for Senior Executives course for Industry, Clinical and Academic Leaders
The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to these educational programmes, whilst also conducting research that is complementary to that of the existing academic staff within BioInnovate and the discipline of Applied Clinical Artificial Intelligence and Technologies in the School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be located in Block E which provides excellent teaching facilities in a dynamic, collaborative environment. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent and undergraduate or taught postgraduate degree(s) in Medicine, Medical Technologies, Biomedical Engineering or a closely related Science or Business discipline; a qualification in needs-led innovation or significant experience leading a health technology innovation enterprise; experience of teaching BioInnovation to diverse student cohorts; and evidence of an ongoing interest in, and commitment to, teaching.
