Professor and Deputy Principal GDIC

Applications are invited for a permanent post of a Professor and Deputy Principal GDIC within UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science OR UCD School of Biology & Environmental Science (permanent and ongoing) AND UCD Guangzhou-Dublin International College of Life Sciences & Technology (GDIC) at South China Agricultural University (for the first 5 years of tenure only).

This is a full-time permanent academic post. The appointee will become an academic associated with one of the UCD constituent Schools of GDIC, either the UCD School of Agriculture & Food Science or the UCD School of Biology & Environmental Science, through which they will manage their research and teaching activities under the remit of their Head of School. For the first 5 years of their appointment the appointee will also serve as Deputy Principal of GDIC. The reporting line for their Deputy Principal GDIC duties will be to the Principal GDIC. The Head of School and the Principal GDIC will work collaboratively to achieve an appropriate balance of duties within the parameters of a normal academic workload of teaching & learning, research and administrative duties.

We are seeking a candidate who will work with colleagues to deliver modules in our undergraduate and taught graduate degree programmes (either at GDIC or in Dublin), supervise undergraduate and taught graduate research projects and support the Principal GDIC in providing academic oversight and leadership for programmes offered at GDIC. The successful candidate will be research active with a track record of excellence in teaching and research commensurate Professor level at UCD.

Particular to this position:

• Given the nature of the role a commitment to spending time at GDIC in Guangzhou is required.
• External appointees, or internal appointees currently teaching on GDIC programmes, will spend one Teaching Semester at GDIC and also spend up to six weeks, but no less than 3 weeks, including the first 3 weeks of the semester in the opposite semester to their teaching semester at GDIC.
• Internal appointees currently fulfilling their teaching commitments on campus in Dublin, will spend six weeks per semester, including the first 3 weeks of each semester, at GDIC with existing on campus academic duties adjusted to suit.

95 Professor (7939) Salary Scale: €106,611 - €142,500 Per Annum

Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
