Applications are invited for appointment as Professor and Head of the Department of Architecture (Ref.: 536466). Appointment as Professor will be on tenure terms; the Headship is for an initial three-year term, renewable subject to mutual agreement. Exceptionally qualified candidates may be considered for appointment as Chair Professor.

The Role

The Head of Department is expected to:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction, ensuring alignment with University goals.
  • Advance the Department’s global profile through international collaborations and academic networks.
  • Enhance research activity by supporting grant applications, early-career researchers, and global partnerships.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Lead talent recruitment, retention, and professional development.
  • Oversee student admissions and quality assurance, promoting excellence in teaching and student success.
  • Represent the Department externally, building networks to support its growth.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • Internationally recognised standing in architecture.
  • Distinguished academic record in research, scholarship, and teaching.
  • Demonstrated innovative architectural practice.
  • Proven leadership and university-level administrative experience.
  • Strong international network and ability to secure research funding.
  • Excellent communication skills and high personal integrity.

Compensation and Benefits

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual and professional leave, medical coverage, and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries. Housing benefits are provided where applicable.
