About the job:
This role within the Genomics & Cytometry Core Technology Unit (GCCTU) involves supporting the delivery of high-quality next-generation sequencing (NGS) services for both internal and external users within the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences. Working under the direction of the GCCTU Manager, the post holder will perform and optimise a range of genomic workflows including RNA sequencing, DNA sequencing, metagenomic profiling, library preparation, sample quality control, and sequencing using Illumina platforms such as MiSeq, NextSeq 2000 and NovaSeq 6000. The role also includes operation and maintenance of specialist laboratory equipment and automated robotic systems, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures, health and safety regulations, and laboratory quality standards. Additional responsibilities include maintaining laboratory consumable s and equipment, updating SOPs and risk assessments, supporting the development of new genomic applications, and accurately reporting and archiving data. The post holder will provide technical support, consultation, troubleshooting and training to facility users, assist with workshops and outreach activities, and contribute to the promotion and continuous development of the GCCTU through ongoing professional training and collaboration with researchers, students, suppliers and external partners.
