The Role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the highly respected 3D Design Department at Kingston School of Art, home to BA Interior Design, BA Product and Furniture Design, BA 3D Design Innovation, MA Sustainable Design, MA Product and Furniture Design, MA Interior Design, and a thriving postgraduate research community.

We are seeking a Lecturer to contribute to our nationally recognised BA Interior Design programme, primarily teaching Level 4 students as they develop fundamental design skills, spatial understanding, and conceptual thinking. You will deliver engaging teaching through workshops, tutorials, design reviews, study visits and assessment, inspiring students as they begin their creative journey.

The successful candidate will be organised, collaborative and proactive, with the ability to work effectively across academic teams and with external partners. You will have a broad skillset spanning traditional analogue methods, including hand drawing and model making, alongside digital 3D modelling and visualisation technologies. Experience of active learning approaches that encourage participation, collaboration and experimentation is desirable.

The role also includes personal tutoring and pastoral support for a diverse student community. A commitment to inclusive, student-centred learning and curriculum development is essential. You will play an important role in helping students develop creative confidence alongside technical competence.

The Person

You will be an enthusiastic educator and creative practitioner with an undergraduate degree in Interior Design or a related discipline; a postgraduate or research degree is desirable.

You will demonstrate expertise in core design skills, spatial thinking and conceptual development, with strong abilities in drawing, model making, visualisation and presentation. Industry experience and experience of teaching, assessment and supporting students in higher education are essential.

We are looking for someone who is keen to develop a profile in research, knowledge exchange or higher education pedagogy, and who enjoys working collaboratively within an interdisciplinary academic environment. Excellent communication, organisation and teamwork skills are essential.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet Kingston University's standards in learning, teaching and research. By the end of probation, successful candidates will be expected to achieve the appropriate level of UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF) recognition if not already held.
