About the role

The Academic Administration Manager is a senior role in the Faculty of English's Academic Office, responsible for overseeing the administration and delivery of all undergraduate and graduate programmes. Working closely with the Deputy Head of Administration and Finance, the post-holder will provide strategic and operational leadership across academic administration, ensuring the delivery of high-quality services to students and academic staff. 

The role combines people management, process improvement, and operational oversight within a complex and fast-paced academic environment. The post-holder will lead the Academic Office, providing oversight to support the effective administration of admissions, examinations, student support, course delivery, and related academic processes. They will work proactively to ensure compliance with University and Divisional policies, while identifying opportunities to enhance efficiency, consistency, and service quality. 

The Academic Administration Manager will line manage five members of the Academic Office team, providing leadership, support, and professional development. A key aspect of the role will be reviewing, developing, and implementing standard operating procedures to ensure effective and consistent delivery of services across the Faculty. The post-holder will foster a culture of continuous improvement and high performance within the team, as well as collaborating with senior academic colleagues and professional services staff across the University to ensure best practice. 

The successful candidate will have substantial experience managing busy administrative teams in a complex organisation. They will possess excellent organisational skills and proven ability to proactively identify system and process improvement. They will be an effective communicator, capable of building productive relationships with stakeholders at all levels and leading teams by example. 

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced administrator seeking a leadership role within higher education, with significant scope to shape processes and contribute to the Faculty's strategic objectives.

About you

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent experience and have significant experience of leading administrative or professional services teams in a complex organisation, including line management and allocating workloads. You will also have experience of coordinating and monitoring projects, ensuring deadlines and service requirements are met, have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the proven ability to proactively identify issues and implement practical solutions.
