Clinical Research Fellow in Gastroenterology

This is a 100% FTE, fixed term position for 12 months.

The post-holder will be Oxford-based for this collaboration working under the supervision of Director of Clinical Research - Prof Chris Buckley and specialist gastroenterologists Professor Simon Travis and Dr Alissa Walsh. You will closely collaborate with other team members in Oxford such as Tissue Biology Lead Dr Matthias Friedrich, Computational/Bioinformatics Lead Professor Calliope Dendrou and liaise closely with colleagues in the Experimental Medicine Clinical Research Facility (EMCRF).

About the Role 

We are offering an exciting and exceptional opportunity for an experienced specialist gastroenterology trainee to work at the interface of academia and industry, joining a multidisciplinary team seeking to understand the molecular basis of inflammatory bowel disease and new treatment targets. In this role, you will participate in proof of biology and/or interventional studies in Gastroenterology, working within the multidisciplinary team to deliver the strategic aims of the group and the delivery of the trial portfolio of studies according to time and target. You will be responsible for the identification and recruitment of patients to clinical trials liaising within the Gastroenterology department and other NHS departments to ensure a seamless service. You will write research papers for submission to peer-reviewed journals and abstracts for submission to national and international conferences as well as be involved in the writing and submission of grant applications related to their particular area of research. You will also be responsible for the clinical care of trial participants including monitoring and evaluating trial participants under the supervision of senior colleagues and working within your scope of clinical competence. Full training will be provided to ensure you have the necessary clinical skills required to include the preparation/storage of biological samples according to regulatory requirements. 

About You

You must hold an undergraduate degree with honours or distinction in Medicine as well as a full registration (and a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) with evidence of some sub-specialty training in Gastroenterology. You must demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a team, as well as independently together with excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to be comfortable and confident interacting with patients in a research study, team members, administrative staff, and the broader research community. You will demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development alongside excellent organisational skills with the ability to work flexibly and autonomously and contribute to / manage multiple projects at various stages of development and organisation. You will also demonstrate an ability to follow departmental guidance in handling sensitive and personal information, including complying with current data protection legislation. Specialist Registrar Grade or Certificate of Completion of Training is desirable.
