Our University

Ravensbourne University London is a dynamic institution at the intersection of creativity, business, and technology. Based in London’s Design District in the heart of North Greenwich, we are home to a diverse, global community in one of the world’s most vibrant business & creative hubs.

Background

Our BA Fashion course is internationally renowned, with a strong heritage and reputation for producing highly employable graduates with a distinctive personal design identity & excellent technical skills.

Our graduate work has been recognised by the British Fashion Council and SHOWstudio, promoting our Class of 2025 press show catwalk at Studio Smithfield. Previous international showcases have included catwalk shows & presentations at London Fashion Week and Paris Fashion Week.

We are looking for a dynamic and highly skilled fashion Technical Tutor to join our Fashion Atelier team in a diverse role that balances excellent hands-on technical tuition with the running of an outstanding fashion production workshop.

The Role & Candidate

With extensive experience in garment construction, and a strong motivation to embed fashion technologies into your day-to-day, you will be just as comfortable demonstrating advanced denim and tailoring construction techniques to a room full of students as you are troubleshooting a large-format digital textile printer or pattern plotter-cutter. You should be excited and motivated to pick up complimentary skills and processes as our facilities & curriculum evolve.

Passing on strong and current garment construction and fashion technologies skills to your students is a key aspect of what you do. You’ll also be driven to support the success of your students, the course, and the university as a whole in dynamic ways – including directly sewing garments and prototypes for exhibitions, competitions and marketing campaigns and collaborating with industry partners as part of our learning with industry strategy.

You take pride in all aspects of your work and bring a strong sense of professionalism and healthy perfectionism to your role. This extends to the Atelier itself, where you will take ownership of its organisation, presentation and safety, ensuring it is a space that reflects the standards of the course and inspires the students who work in it. You genuinely value being meticulously organised and you prioritise safety – an example you are determined to set for your students to help elevate them even further.

If you are excited to blend traditional garment construction teaching with a diverse range of fashion technologies and be a key contributor to a dynamic, technology-forward institution, we would love to hear from you.

Application & Interview Requirements

Please attach to your application a PDF portfolio demonstrating some key work and/or teaching case studies pertinent to the position and role requirements. Well-designed portfolios demonstrating your process and thinking, not only the end-result, are especially appreciated. Applications without a PDF portfolio attached will not be considered.

Interviews will consist of an initial Q&A interview with a panel, followed by a technical assessment lasting up to one hour, in which you will be asked to sew a sleeve gauntlet from pre-cut pieces while explaining (as if to students) what you are doing. The entire interview process should last no more than 2 hours in total.

We Offer

  • Generous leave
  • Competitive Pension Scheme
  • An Employee Assistance programme
  • A cycle-to-work scheme
