The Department of History is seeking to appoint an individual to a fixed-term post in Environmental History to provide teaching cover for Investigators on the Wellcome Trust Discovery Award ‘Melting Metropolis: Everyday Histories of Heat and Health in London, New York and Paris since 1945’.
We are an interdisciplinary group of historians committed to an engaged approach to teaching and researching the global past. We place particular emphasis on addressing historical injustices through our work on the Holocaust, gender, medical racism, slavery, and colonial and postcolonial violence. From climate change to health care, library provision, abortion, religious intolerance, and the rise of the far right, we pride ourselves on using historical research to inform key contemporary debates.
The Department of History is part of the School of Histories, Languages & Cultures, which explores culture and society from the origins of humanity and ancient history to modern day politics and includes the Departments of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology; History; Irish Studies; Language, Cultures and Film; and Politics. It is one of four Schools within the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.
