The Faculty wishes to recruit Postdoctoral Research Fellow to support the work of Professor Albert Chen. This European Commission and UK Research and Innovation funded full-time post is available from 01 October 2026 on a fixed term basis until 31 August 2028.
The starting salary will be from £43,482 on Grade F for Postdoctoral Research Fellow, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.
The Role
Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy
The successful applicant will contribute to the project NATALIE by developing AI algorithms that integrate data from various sources to better understand, predict and control the performance of Nature Based Solutions (NBS) across a range of hydro-climatic events and conditions. A key outcome from the project will be deploying these algorithms to identify feasibility, spatial placement and configuration of NBS and evaluate their performances from a decision support context.
The successful applicant must ensure AI and machine learning technologies are well communicated and robust to ensure data quality and trustworthy application. This data contextualisation will enable small data AI developed by the candidate to apply explainable algorithms to understand physical interrelation and connections between regional impacts and the implementation of the NBS.
The post will be responsible for delivering research outputs in the form of developing new algorithms, analysis of methodological decisions, analysis of NBS and implementation of decision support tools. The candidate will be responsible for internal communication internally across an extensive international project team through weekly reports, technical summaries and meetings, and externally through contributions to conferences and scientific articles.
