The opportunity

Join a creative community where technical expertise plays a vital role in shaping the work of emerging sound artists, producers, designers, and creative practitioners.

As Specialist Technician (Learning & Teaching) in Sound Arts & Design, you’ll become part of the Sound & Music Technical team at London College of Communication, supporting students as they explore, experiment and realise ambitious creative projects. Working across professional recording studios, specialist sound facilities, galleries, performance spaces and live events, you’ll help create an inspiring environment where technical excellence and creative practice go hand in hand.

This is a varied, hands-on role that combines technical expertise, teaching support, and creative collaboration. You’ll provide specialist guidance in studio-based audio recording, sound installation, location recording and post-production, while introducing students to industry-standard workflows, equipment, and professional practice. You’ll deliver inductions, workshops, and one-to-one support, helping students develop both technical confidence and creative ambition.

You will help shape the future of our facilities by maintaining and developing specialist equipment, contributing to studio improvements, supporting exhibitions, and working closely with academic colleagues to continually enhance the student experience. Your expertise will directly influence the quality of learning and the creative possibilities available to our students.

If you enjoy solving technical challenges, sharing knowledge and seeing creative ideas come to life, this is an opportunity to make a real impact within one of the world’s leading universities for art and design.

About you

You will be an experienced sound practitioner with strong technical expertise across contemporary audio production and sound design. You will have excellent working knowledge of analogue and digital audio systems, recording and post-production workflows, live sound, and professional audio software applications such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro and Ableton Live. Knowledge and experience with 3D multi-channel sound diffusion, Ambisonics, Dolby Atmos, physical computing & coding would be desirable.

Equally important is your enthusiasm for supporting student learning. Whether your experience comes from higher education, industry training, or professional practice, you will enjoy sharing your knowledge, explaining complex technical concepts clearly, and helping others develop their confidence and creative ambitions.

You will be organised, adaptable, and collaborative, able to manage competing priorities while maintaining high standards of technical support and customer service. You’ll be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team, solving technical problems, maintaining specialist equipment, and contributing positively to the ongoing development of our facilities and services.

Most of all, you’ll be passionate about sound and recognise that outstanding technical support is more than just equipment - it’s about enabling creative ideas, encouraging experimentation, and helping students develop the confidence and skills they’ll take into professional practice.
