We invite applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the Zeeman Institute for Systems Biology and Infectious Disease Epidemiology in the School of Life Sciences and Mathematics at the University of Warwick.

The purpose of this position is to develop models of livestock disease in India. The PDRA will work closely with policy makers in India.

The successful candidate will be employed to mathematical models to simulate the spread of livestock diseases in India and to determine optimal control policies to reduce disease burden.

In particular, the successful candidate will work closely with the project investigator, Professor Michael Tildesley and our colleagues at Penn State University in the USA and NIVEDI in India upon the development of a policy ready modelling framework for livestock disease control.

Due to the nature of this role, there is an expectation that the post holder will spend a minimum of 80% of their time working on campus. There may be periods requiring 100% on-campus presence, particularly within the first three months to support training. Following successful completion of the training period, hybrid working may be available, typically allowing for one day per week working from home.

About You  

The successful applicant will be able to present information on research progress and outcomes, communicate complex information, orally, in writing and electronically and prepare proposals and applications to external bodies.

Candidates should hold a PhD in a relevant subject (e.g. mathematics, biology or veterinary science).

The person appointed to this post will be required to work with and support other members in the research group so is required not only to work independently but will also be team orientated.

PhD Status

If you are near submission of your PhD, or have not yet had it conferred, any offers of employment will be made at Research Assistant level, at the highest spinal point of pay grade 5 (£34,610 per annum).

Upon receipt of evidence confirming the successful award of your PhD, you will be promoted to Research Fellow, at the lowest spinal point of grade 6 (£35,608 per annum).
