We are a world class research-intensive university. We deliver teaching and learning of the highest quality. We play a leading role in economic, social and cultural development of the North East of England. Attracting and retaining high-calibre people is fundamental to our continued success.
The Role
Newcastle Law School seeks to appoint a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Legal Education to join our forward thinking, inclusive Russell Group Law School.
The Law School has a strong tradition of pro bono, student outreach and community engagement activity. Our intention is to build on that work and develop a Newcastle Law School Community Clinic offer. We are looking for someone who can help design, shape and ultimately lead this Clinic. You will also be expected to contribute to the development of clinical and practice-based legal education, working closely with academic colleagues and external partners to embed real-world learning across undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, to help in the design and assessment of professional legal or transferable skills across the curriculum and to help oversee co/extracurricular activities under the umbrella of the Community Clinic where appropriate. We welcome applications from people with a traditional academic research background with experience in pro bono type work in a university setting or from a legal professional practice background with management and leadership experience that includes elements of pro bono/clinic work, training and teaching.
Newcastle Law School is a globally connected, locally rooted and compassionate community. We embrace diversity and advance social justice by addressing contemporary and future challenges through our research, our scholarship, our engagement with partners, and as a lasting impact of our legal education. We are based in Newcastle upon Tyne, a city with a wide variety of cultural, social and leisure offering, with outstanding schools and close proximity to beautiful nature and heritage sites. We want to appoint someone who shares our values, and who will work with us to realise them across all our areas of activity. We are particularly interested in the strengths and lived experiences of people from different ethnic groups and cultures to broaden the diversity of Newcastle Law School, as we strive to avoid perpetuating biases and oversights on legal research and legal education.
If you see yourself in the above description, then please consider applying. If you would like a confidential discussion about this role please contact Samantha Ryan, Head of Newcastle Law School at Samantha.ryan@newcastle.ac.uk.
