The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts (MCPA) seeks to appoint two new positions on Scotland’s newest graphic design degree BA(Hons) Digital and Graphic Design. We wish to recruit a MAC technician to support the new design students with set-up, maintenance and support of QMU’s new MAC suite. We also wish to recruit a Digital Design lecturer to share the teaching of the first three graphic design modules in this new programme in QMU’s new MAC suite.

QMU has a long track record of delivering industry-relevant Media, Marketing and Arts degrees. You would be joining an established team of design and media academics to teach on/support BA(Hons) Digital and Graphic Design’s first cohort of undergraduate students.

You would contribute to the delivery of the first-year modules to provide digital graphic design students with the fundamental grounding in core digital graphic design practical, contextual and technical skill sets.

The successful lecturer candidate will combine academic knowledge with up-to-date industry-relevant skills in the broad area of digital graphic design, with a focus on teaching first year design students at the start of their careers.

Applicants should hold a postgraduate degree in the relevant subject area.

While applicants would require understanding of the wider field of digital graphic design (graphic design, motion design and/or interaction design), they would be expected to provide the Division with specific knowledge and expertise teaching design principles (layout, typography, composition, visual communication, etc.) to undergraduate students.

The lecturer post holder would primarily focus on delivering existing digital graphic design modules and may be required to contribute towards developing new modules related to their knowledge and expertise.

Lecturer applicants would benefit from strong graphic design, motion design and/or interaction design experience and industry connections.

Specific modules that the postholder may contribute to include:

  • Digital Design 101
  • Intro to Motion Design
  • Designing for Audiences
  • Dissertation supervision

The Division of Media, Communication and Performing Arts offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Graphic Design, Film, Media, Digital Marketing and Public Relations Content Creation, Drama, Arts Management, Acting, Costume, Strategic and Political Communications. The Division also has several successful collaborations with other organisations delivering QMU validated degree programmes. Staff within the Division submitted to REF 2021. If the post-holder has a track record of relevant research outputs and wishes to be appointed on a Teaching and Research contract, then they will be able to join the Research and Knowledge Exchange Centre for Culture in Society.
