About the role

The Department of Education has an exciting opportunity to appoint an IT and Infrastructure Manager to lead a varied portfolio of responsibilities, including technical support, network and server management, IT security and compliance, data management, projects delivery, infrastructure oversite and continuous improvement initiatives.

The postholder will play a key role in ensuring the efficiency and quality of IT provision so that staff and students benefit from reliable, effective, and forward-looking IT and operational support in a busy academic environment. You will provide high-quality technical leadership and user support, and have experience of designing and implementing IT policies, solutions, and improvements. The role also includes responsibility for infrastructure including aspects of building operations and facilities management, supplier relationships, emergency response coordination, line management of support staff and contribution to the planning and delivery of service improvements.

Using your excellent problem-solving skills and technical knowledge, you will be able to diagnose complex issues, implement effective solutions, and deliver excellent customer service. You should have experience of delivering customer-focused IT services and leading or mentoring a small team. You will also be educated to degree level or equivalent and have strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to work with stakeholders and staff at all levels.

Experience of working within higher education, providing IT support for research projects and leasing and managing multiple companies and departments would be advantageous.

Hybrid working is available, with a minimum of three days per week on site depending on operational needs. When first appointed, the successful candidate will be expected to work full time on site while becoming established in the role. Some evening and weekend working will also be required on a rota basis to support the teaching needs of the department.
