Associate Lecturer

The Department of Biology is seeking to appoint an Associate Lecturer to deliver teaching on our highly successful taught degree programmes. The Department of Biology is one of the largest at the University of York with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. We have a collegiate working environment that fosters equality and inclusion and have held an Athena Swan Gold award since 2014. We place a high emphasis on excellence in both research and teaching and have a core group of teaching specialist staff. We deliver research-led teaching to a large and diverse student cohort embedding knowledge and transferable skills across our degree programmes.

Role
As part of our on-going commitment to teaching excellence and the student experience, we are seeking to appoint a Teaching & Scholarship Associate Lecturer in the area of Eukaryotic Molecular Cell Biology to deliver high quality teaching in popular modules that are taken by multiple different degree programmes. The appointee will contribute to delivery, curriculum development and the management and administration of teaching. They will join a supportive group of colleagues to collaborate on innovative and effective teaching and learning practices and engage in scholarship projects.

Skills, Experience & Qualifications Needed

• PhD in Eukaryotic Molecular Cell Biology, or equivalent experience.
• Appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or a willingness to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP).
• Experience in teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate and/or postgraduate level or in an evidenced similar context.
• Good communications skills and an ability to deliver specialist content in an interesting and understandable manner to students.
