Associate Professor or DTU Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Business Economics and Strategy

The Department of Engineering Technology (DTU Engineering Technology) at DTU invites applications for a full-time faculty position as an Associate Professor or a DTU Tenure Track Assistant Professor in Business Economics and Strategy.

If you are building a strong international research profile at the intersection of strategy, international business, and technological change, this position offers an opportunity to join an ambitious research environment at one of Europe’s leading technical universities. You will join the Business Development Section, where economists, political scientists, sociologists, and engineers collaborate on interdisciplinary projects to understand how technological development, business economics, innovation, and strategy interact, and how firms create, adapt, and compete across different markets, industries, and institutional settings. 

We are particularly interested in candidates with an interest in new technologies and in research on the impact of technological innovation, adoption, or implementation in firms and society across different economic, cultural, and institutional environments. This could be, but is not limited to, studies of multinational enterprises, international strategy, global value chains and eco-systems, cross-cultural management, comparative institutional contexts, or international market dynamics.

Responsibilities and qualifications

Research within the Section for Business Development is focused on the economic, strategic, and managerial aspects of technology implementation, innovation, and sustainable business development. The section has high research ambitions and aims to develop an internationally recognized environment for research and teaching within business development, innovation, strategy, and the business economics of technology implementation.

Our research is inherently cross-disciplinary. We bridge management, economics, and engineering to understand how technological development and business economics interact. We work closely with industry and public-sector organizations and seek to produce research that is both publishable in high-ranked journals and relevant to firms, policymakers, and society.

Examples of current research foci in the section include changing market dynamics in response to technological development; organizational maturity and successful technology implementation; challenges at the intersection of green energy technologies, business, and society; the business aspects of deep tech; sustainable business models; and industrial transition. The new hire is not expected to cover all of these areas. However, we expect the successful candidate to have a demonstrated interest in one or more of the following research areas: 

• International business and strategy
• Strategic management of technological change in a global perspective 
• Technology diffusion, adoption, and adaptation across and their impact on countries, cultures, or institutional contexts
• Global value chains, ecosystems, and international market dynamics
• Cross-cultural and comparative perspectives on technology, innovation, and management
• Digital transformation, AI, green technologies, deep tech, or other emerging technologies in firms and societies
• Sustainable business models, industrial transition, and global competition

The Section collaborates with large enterprises, SMEs, and public-sector organizations. These collaborations ensure that our research has impact beyond academia and at the same time provide insight into the challenges practitioners face when implementing new technologies, developing new business opportunities, and responding to changing conditions related to sustainability, digitalization, globalization, and competitiveness.
