About the College:
Homerton College was founded in the 18th Century, moved to its current location in 1894 and was granted a Royal Charter as a self-governing College of the University of Cambridge in 2010. Located within easy reach of the historic city centre, and within easy access to Cambridge mainline station, the College has over 1,000 students and a Fellowship of about 70.
The College ethos is exemplified by a desire to ensure access for the widest range of talented students, to provide outstanding teaching and to offer financial support where we can.
About the role:
Homerton is a large and diverse College committed to nurturing a talented, open-minded and principled scholarly community. We provide person-centred support that helps every student navigate their journey and feel a strong sense of belonging within an inclusive community.
The Deputy Senior Tutor (DST) will oversee the welfare and wellbeing of undergraduate and postgraduate students at Homerton and deputise for the Senior Tutor as required. The role also offers opportunities to develop leadership and management experience.
Working closely with the Senior Tutor, the DST will share responsibility for supporting students’ academic, mental and physical wellbeing. This includes helping students experiencing difficulties, leading initiatives that promote wellbeing and inclusion, and ensuring the College meets its duties under the Equality Act, including coordinating reasonable adjustments.
The successful candidate will have substantial experience in higher education or a comparable environment, with a strong understanding of the student experience. They will have proven leadership and management skills, the ability to motivate and support colleagues, build relationships across a multidisciplinary organisation, and contribute to strategic planning and service development.
The postholder will be an excellent communicator, able to build trust and work collaboratively with students, academic colleagues, professional services staff and external partners. Experience of delivering presentations and producing reports and policy documents using Microsoft Office applications would be advantageous.
This post is fixed term for 1 year.
