To make a leading contribution to the direction and running of the laboratory of Professor Craig Jamieson, where the main focus of the group is in the area of medicinal chemistry and chemical biology. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to the formulation and submission of peer-reviewed publications and research proposals, as well as help manage the day to day operations of the research laboratory including supervision of associated graduate students.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Take a leading role in the planning and execution of research aligned with the laboratory’s deliverables and Departmental research strategy.
  2. Curation of research output including analysis and interpretation of all data, maintaining records and databases, drafting technical/progress reports and papers as appropriate.
  3. Establish and maintain your research profile and reputation, and that of the Department/wider University, including development of a track record of independent and joint publications of internationally leading quality, and enhancing the translational impact of the research through collaboration with Knowledge Exchange Partners.
  4. Continuously assess the relevant scientific literature, using this knowledge to understand the research challenges associated with the running of the laboratory and contribute to the development of the group’s research strategy.
  5. Play a key role in identifying potential sources of funding, and to contribute to the development of proposals for submission to external funding bodies.
  6. Make significant contributions to organisation, supervision, mentoring and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students and less experienced members of the laboratory to ensure their continuous development.
  7. Execute citizenship tasks related to the activities of the research group and Department, including Budgets/Expenditure.
  8. Where appropriate, make contributions to Teaching activities (e.g. demonstrating, tutorials etc)
  9. Maintain an excellent working knowledge and recent advances in the areas relevant to the work of the research group.
