The Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine and Green Templeton College intend to appoint to the Osler Professorship of Medicine with effect from September 2027 or as soon as possible thereafter. This statutory professorship offers an exceptional opportunity to shape the future of clinical medicine at Oxford through world-leading research, outstanding clinical teaching and academic leadership. The successful candidate will also hold a Professorial Fellowship at Green Templeton College.

As Osler Professor, you will provide leadership in the teaching, research and practice of clinical medicine within one of Europe's largest and most successful biomedical research departments. Building on Sir William Osler's patient-centred approach to medicine, you will strengthen the connection between basic science and clinical practice, developing internationally leading programmes of patient-based and experimental medicine research that improve the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of human disease. Working closely with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, you will also help shape the future of academic clinical medicine and support the delivery of outstanding clinical care.

You will lead an internationally competitive programme of research, secure substantial external funding, and help shape the strategic direction of clinical medicine across the Department. You will play a central role in undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, inspire and mentor the next generation of academic clinicians, and expand research capacity by supporting doctoral students, early-career researchers and clinical academics. As a practising clinician, you will hold an honorary consultant contract with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and contribute to the delivery of exemplary clinical services.

You are an internationally recognised clinical academic with an outstanding record of research achievement, academic leadership and excellence in clinical medicine. You have a proven ability to establish major research programmes, secure competitive research funding and build productive collaborations across disciplines and healthcare settings. You combine excellence in research, education and patient care with the vision to inspire others and advance clinical medicine nationally and internationally. To undertake this role, you must be medically qualified, GMC specialist registered (or equivalent), and eligible to hold an honorary consultant appointment with Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine and Green Templeton College are committed to equality, diversity and inclusion and welcome applications from candidates currently underrepresented in senior academic leadership roles, particularly women, candidates from ethnic minority backgrounds, disabled candidates, and those with diverse experiences and perspectives.

For an informal and confidential discussion about the post, please contact Professor Richard Cornall, Head of the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine, at richard.cornall@ndm.ox.ac.uk. All enquiries will be treated in strict confidence and will not form part of the selection process.
