About us

The Universities Policy Engagement Network (UPEN) is a central space for academics, policy actors, and professional services staff who undertake and support academic-policy engagement.

UPEN was awarded funding from UKRI, Research England and the Economic Social Research Council to undertake UPEN Programmes. Its aim is to improve the systems and structures that enable academic-policy engagement across the UK, in partnership with the Universities of Birmingham, Durham, Huddersfield, Leeds, Newcastle, Nottingham Trent, Southampton, and Teesside, and the Institute for Community Studies, the Institute for Government, and Yorkshire Universities.

UPEN is hosted by UCL and is based in the UCL Public Policy team. UCL Public Policy is UCL’s strategic institutional programme to build engagement between researchers and policymakers and enhance the contribution of UCL’s academic expertise to public policy.

About the role

As Policy Engagement Coordinator, you will play a key role in connecting policymakers with academic expertise to help ensure research informs public policy.

You will coordinate policy enquiries through the UPEN CONNECT service, build strong relationships with policy stakeholders, support academics to develop policy-facing outputs, and organise workshops, roundtables and other knowledge exchange activities.

You will also monitor policy developments, strengthen networks of expertise, improve knowledge brokerage processes, and capture learning and impact to help shape and enhance UPEN's work.
